City of Los Angeles Rules & Elections Committee Will Consider Reworking Prop D

On Friday, June 17th at 9 AM, the City of Los Angeles Rules and Elections Committee will begin the process of reworking Proposition D. The agenda can be viewed HERE.

The UCBA and our lobbying partners at Englander Knabe & Allen {EKA} have been working directly with Council President Herb Wesson’s office to not only craft the original motion (CF # 14-0366-S5) which will be heard in committee, but we have also been working closely with the Office of Finance and City Attorney’s office to ensure that the City continues to recognize Prop D compliant Medical Marijuana Dispensaries.

The hearing on Friday will begin the formal process of addressing a new Prop D. The City process requires a hearing in committee and full council to direct City staff to begin working on the contents of the motion. The Rules Committee will not be taking any direct action towards adopting a policy, the action is simply moving the process forward.

The committee time will be limited to approximately one hour as it is scheduled to begin at 9 AM and full council begins at 10AM. The Committee will take limited public comment as it relates to the process set in the motion, but will not be making a vote on any policies that directly affect medical marijuana sales, cultivation, distribution, manufacturing or transport.

EKA staff have been in direct contact with City staff on this matter and will be in attendance.

There is no need for UCBA members to testify under public comment at this time.
